Achimota Hospital Marks World AIDS Day with Awareness and Action
On December 2nd, 2024, Achimota Hospital joined the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day. This year’s theme, “Take the Right Path,” emphasized the importance of human rights in the response to HIV/AIDS. In Ghana, the national theme “Ending AIDS Together: Stepping up Prevention Efforts” resonated with the hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive care and support to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. To mark the occasion, the hospital organized a series of activities aimed at educating and empowering staff and clients.
Activities:
1. Educational talks were held at the Outpatient Department (OPD), Antenatal Clinic (ANC), and Child Welfare Clinic (CWC), focusing on HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
2. Staff and clients also had the opportunity to undergo free HIV screening, and condoms and HIV self-test kits were distributed to promote safe practices.
3. A presentation on HIV statistics and how to use the self-test kit was also made to staff, highlighting the importance of early detection and treatment.
The hospital’s efforts to commemorate World AIDS Day demonstrated its commitment to supporting the global effort to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. By promoting awareness, education, and action, Achimota Hospital is taking the right path towards a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a threat to public health.
