Achimota Hospital marked Cervical Cancer Awareness Month with a series of engaging activities centered around the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives, Get Screened. Learn | Prevent | Screen.”
Launch and Presentation: The celebration kicked off on Monday, 20th January, with a presentation on cervical cancer to staff, highlighting the importance of early detection and screening.
Screening and Education: Throughout the week, from Mondays to Fridays, staff and clients underwent free cervical cancer screening. This initiative aimed to promote early detection and encourage individuals to take proactive steps towards their health.
Climax of Celebration, Durbar and Pregnancy School: The grand finale of the celebration took place on 31st January at the forecourt of the maternity block. The event featured a Durbar, which brought together stakeholders, community members, and hospital staff. The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including:
– Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North Municipal Assembly
– Ms. Jacqueline Sfajirlani, Municipal Director of Health Services for Okaikoi North Municipal Assembly
– Dr. Jacqueline Anita Sowah, Medical Superintendent of Achimota Hospital
– Mr. Bernard Fiifi Polley, Hospital Administrator of Achimota Hospital
– Management of Achimota Hospital and community members.
The Durbar was preceded by a pregnancy school, which provided a platform for expectant mothers to receive valuable information and guidance on prenatal care and cervical cancer prevention.
